When Sue Spertus Larkey was growing up in a suburb of Chicago, she had no idea that her fascination with the fledgling State of Israel would lead to an even more fascinating life in Jerusalem. While raising four kids and grand- parenting twelve, Sue found time to volunteer in the ethnology department of the Israel Museum, run her own catering company, and become a respected food writer.

In her upcoming book-talk on October 15th at the Levin JCC, Sue will talk about her ten-year study of the culture and cuisine of the Jews of Yemen. The book-talk will be followed by a cooking demo and tasting of Yeminite rolls, two different dips, tea, and Turkish coffee with Yemenite spices as well as a book signing.

Sicha: Hevre Kaddisha Day of Learning

February 7, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - February 7, 2016 @ 5:00 pm

Join Rabbi Steve Sager and Sicha for the fourth annual Day of Learning to celebrate the work of the triangle area burial societies. The study theme for this year will be A Time To Tear And A Time To Mend. Tearing is the voice of loss, the eloquent language of mourning without words. Mending requires examining the tear, attending to the unraveled threads, restoring attachment, coherence, and use. The Hevre Kaddisha, the Burial Society, brings the presence of community to moments of tearing that lead to moments of mending. COME HONOR THE WORKERS AND THE WORK BY PARTICIPATING!
